History of Karmaloop
Karmaloop was founded back in 2000 by Greg Selkoe. His goal with Karmaloop was to provide a website capable of catering to the growing popularity of urban style. He founded the company in his parents’ basement in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. As you might guess, the site started quite small. Since those humble beginnings in his parents’ basement, however, Greg Selkoe’s Karmaloop has grown to be one of the premier Internet retailers in the urban style niche.
In its modern version, Karmaloop receives over 3.5 million unique visitors a month and carries clothing from over 150 urban style brands. Some of these brands include Cheap Monday, Crooks and Castles, Mishka, Puma, Adidas, Married to the Mob, Burton, and many, many other popular brands. Karmaloop is also expanding into even more brands, by allowing small clothing companies to sell their wares through Karmaloop’s innovative Kazbah store.
While Karmaloop may have started as solely a website, they have since expanded into the brick and mortar retail environment. In 2005, Karmaloop launched their flagship retail store in the Newbury Street area of Boston. The store does not sell the entire selection of Karmaloop’s website; rather, they sell the “best of the best’ and a number of limited edition pieces. Karmaloop’s retail store has been wildly successful, drawing in customers such as Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Owen Wilson, and many other popular celebrities. The store is also, of course, popular among non-celebrity street wear enthusiasts.

Karmaloop also has a wildly successful blog, and has also launched KarmaloopTV. KarmaloopTV has featured a slew of celebrities and musicians and has a very large viewing audience. Karmaloop was also very active in the 2008 election, doing their best to rally as many voters as possible.
Karmaloop had humble beginning’s in the basement of Greg’s parent’s house, but have since blown up into an incredibly popular brand. They have a website that draws millions of visitors, a popular retail store and blog, and are also active in politics. They also are very popular among celebrities, especially in the hip hop genre of music. Karmaloop is one of the most popular urban style brands, and there doesn’t seem to be any chance of that changing any time soon.
